What does buying a car have to do with mathematics? Quite a lot, as two students from Brockton School in North Vancouver recently discovered during a visit to Capilano Volkswagen.
Welcomed by General Sales Manager Essiano Majidi and the dealership team, the students had the opportunity to explore the financial side of purchasing a vehicle through real-world examples and practical discussions.
Using a vehicle of interest as their starting point, the students were introduced to some of the terminology and calculations involved in the car-buying process. They explored different financing options, compared shorter-term and longer-term financing arrangements, and learned how leasing works.
The exercise went beyond simply looking at monthly payments. The students considered factors such as down payments, financing terms, and the financial differences between purchasing and leasing a vehicle. By working through different scenarios, they could see how changing certain variables affects the numbers and how different options can suit different financial situations.
For the students, it was an opportunity to connect mathematical concepts with decisions people make in everyday life. For the dealership team, it was a chance to share practical industry knowledge and offer a closer look at the financial side of the automotive business.
Capilano Volkswagen was pleased to welcome the students and their teacher, Svetlana Catia, and to be part of an experience that brought classroom learning into a real-world setting.
We thank Brockton School for the opportunity to host the students and make the automotive buying process part of their learning experience.
