Once the clocks fall back, a lot more of the daily drive happens in the dark. The school pickup, the trip home from work and the quick run to the store all start to feel different when the sun sets before dinner.
Good lighting helps those drives feel calmer. For 2027, the Volkswagen Taos makes dynamic headlights with cornering lights standard on every trim, from the front-wheel-drive Trendline to the Highline. Here is what that means, plus the other lighting features that come along with it.

The 2027 Taos lineup has five trims: Trendline, Trendline 4MOTION, Comfortline, Comfortline Black Edition and Highline. Every one of them comes with dynamic headlights with cornering lights.
Dynamic headlights work with your steering, helping light the road as it bends. Cornering lights add light to the side you are turning toward. That helps at dark intersections, on side streets with few street lamps and in parking lots where people and shopping carts can be hard to spot.
Because this setup is standard, you get the same cornering lights on the entry Trendline as you do on the Highline. There is no lighting package to add and no trim to step up to.

The cornering lights sit alongside LED projector headlights with LED daytime running lights, which are also standard on every 2027 Taos. The LED projector headlights light up the road once the sun goes down. The LED daytime running lights help other drivers see the Taos at dusk and on grey, overcast days.
At the back, every Taos has LED tail lights with an illuminated rear emblem. That gives drivers behind you a clear view of the vehicle in low light.
Here is the standard exterior lighting on every 2027 Taos:
Darker evenings often come with rain, slush and road spray. Every 2027 Taos comes with rain-sensing wipers that switch on by themselves when the glass gets wet. Heated washer nozzles are standard as well, which helps keep washer fluid flowing in cold weather.
Power-adjustable, heated exterior mirrors also come on every trim. A clear mirror helps a lot when you are changing lanes at night and relying on headlights in the glass to judge distance.
Starting with the Comfortline, the Taos adds Light Assist automatic high-beam control. It manages your high beams on dark roads, so you can keep your eyes on the road and your hands on the wheel. The Comfortline Black Edition and Highline keep it as well.
The Comfortline Black Edition and Highline also add an exterior illuminated light line at the front, which gives the Taos a distinct look after dark. Inside, both trims come with interior ambient lighting that you can set to up to 10 colours.
Good lights pair well with good driver assistance. Every 2027 Taos comes with:
The Highline also adds Dynamic Road Sign Display, which shows posted road signs in the instrument cluster.
Every 2027 Taos uses a 1.5 L 4-cylinder TSI engine with 174 hp and 184 lb-ft of torque, paired with an 8-speed automatic transmission. The Trendline is front-wheel drive, and every other trim comes with 4MOTION all-wheel drive.
Heated front seats and a leatherette multi-function heated steering wheel are standard on all five trims, along with dual-zone electronic climate control. That makes the cabin a comfortable place to be on a cold, dark evening.
