Volkswagen's subcompact SUV, the Taos, gets an exciting refresh for the 2025 model year with a bold new design, upgraded technology, and more powerful engine. These updates aim to solidify its standing in the very competitive subcompact SUV market.
Exterior Enhancements
The 2025 Taos showcases a striking new front-end design, incorporating a redesigned bumper and grille. An available light bar adds a modern touch, while LED projector headlights now come standard across all trim levels. The rear of the vehicle boasts connected taillights and an illuminated Volkswagen badge, contributing to a more upscale appearance.
Volkswagen expands the Taos' colour palette with three new options: Serrano Green Metallic, Monterey Blue Pearl, and Alpine Grey. The SUV also offers a range of new aluminum alloy wheels in 17, 18, and 19-inch sizes across various trims.
Interior Updates and Technology Upgrades
Inside, the 2025 Taos features a redesigned dashboard with an 8-inch floating infotainment display as standard equipment on all models. The cabin now includes a dual-zone automatic Climatronic HVAC system with touch controls. New acoustic dampening treatments have been added to reduce interior noise, enhancing overall comfort.
Upholstery options vary by trim level, with Trendline models featuring cloth seats, Comfortline trims offering MicroCloud leatherette, and Highline versions providing leather seats, including a new "Blue Night" dark blue option.
Powertrain Improvements
Under the hood, the 2025 Taos receives a revised 1.5-litre turbocharged TSI engine. The updated powerplant now produces 174 horsepower, a notable increase from the previous 158 hp. This boost in performance comes from various technical improvements, including new piston rings, a modified turbo housing, a larger intercooler, and the addition of a gasoline particulate filter.
For models equipped with 4MOTION all-wheel drive, Volkswagen has replaced the previous seven-speed DSG dual-clutch transmission with a new eight-speed automatic transmission, aimed at enhancing drivability.
Advanced Safety Features
The 2025 Taos offers an extensive suite of driver assistance technologies through Volkswagen's IQ.DRIVE system. Available features include Travel Assist, Front Assist with Pedestrian Monitoring, Active Blind Spot Monitor, Rear Traffic Alert, Adaptive Cruise Control with Stop and Go, Lane Assist, and Emergency Assist. Additionally, the new model introduces front and rear Park Distance Control to aid in parking and maneuvering in tight spaces.
Market Availability
Canadian customers can expect to see the redesigned 2025 Volkswagen Taos in dealerships early in the new year. Pricing details will be announced closer to the launch date.
