Volkswagen has revealed the second-generation 2027 Atlas Cross Sport. It keeps the five-seat, two-row coupe-style layout and adds a 282 hp 2.0 L turbo engine, standard 4MOTION all-wheel drive, 5,000 lb (2,268 kg) towing, and a new cabin with screens up to 15 inches. Canadian pricing has not been announced yet.
What is new on the 2027 Atlas Cross Sport?
The new Atlas Cross Sport rides on the upgraded MQB Evo architecture and keeps the coupe-like roofline that sets it apart from the three-row Atlas. The key changes:
- More power: 282 hp and 258 lb-ft, up 13 hp from the outgoing model
- New design: all-new sheet metal, double-stacked LED headlights, and a cross-body 3D taillight
- New cabin: soft-touch surfaces, open-pore wood trim, and screens up to 15 inches
- More safety: a new front centre airbag, for seven in total, and updated IQ.DRIVE
What engine does the 2027 Atlas Cross Sport have?
A 2.0 L turbocharged four-cylinder with 282 hp and 258 lb-ft of torque, paired with an 8-speed automatic and standard 4MOTION all-wheel drive on every trim. Volkswagen also expects better fuel economy than the outgoing model despite the power increase. The extra power helps on the merges and long grades of BC highways like the Sea to Sky and the Coquihalla.
How much can it tow?
5,000 lb (2,268 kg) with the factory trailer hitch, the same as before. That covers a small boat, a utility trailer, or a compact camper for weekends around the province without stepping up to a three-row SUV.
Which trims will be available?
Three trims are confirmed for Canada: Comfortline, Highline, and Execline R-Line.

Every trim gets the 10.25-inch Digital Cockpit Pro, a Driver Experience Dial for volume, drive mode, and lighting, up to five USB-C ports, and Qi2 wireless charging with MagSafe for two phones side by side.
What does it look like?
The front gets double-stacked LED headlights and a masked upper grille. At the back, a cross-body taillight with 3D elements mirrors the front lighting, and dynamic rear turn signals are standard. Illuminated door handles and puddle lamps are available, and body-colour rocker panels set every Cross Sport apart from the three-row Atlas.
- Wheels: 18-inch alloys on the base trim, 20 or 21 inches on the others
- New exterior colours: Dark Sage Metallic, Blackberry Metallic, and Ascot Grey
- Interior colours: Soul Black, Mistral Grey, and a Cross Sport-exclusive Chestnut Brown
- Ambient lighting: 10 colours standard, 30 colours on the top two trims, with an Atmospheres mode that coordinates lighting with the audio system
What safety and driver assistance features does it have?
A new front centre airbag brings the total to seven. IQ.DRIVE adds hands-on assisted driving from 0 to 150 km/h with driver-initiated lane changes. Front and rear Park Distance Control is standard on every trim. Predictive Adaptive Cruise Control, which adjusts speed for curves, roundabouts, and exit ramps using the built-in navigation, comes on the top two trims, and Park Assist is exclusive to Execline R-Line.
